Fertility Jumpstart: Day Four!
In today’s video I explain the importance of balancing blood sugar through reducing the amount of refined carbs and added sugar in your diet. When your blood sugar is out of whack it sets off a cascade of hormonal imbalances that affect our fertility. Research shows that low sugar diets may help to improve fertility and overall pregnancy health. Watch the video to learn more blood sugar basics.
Here are a few of my favorite tips to help you break up with sugar, once and for all!
Eat a protein rich breakfast within 60 minutes of waking: Try eggs, protein green smoothies, chia seed pudding, or Greek yogurt. Not a morning person? Try eating ½ cup of fruit with 1 tbsp nut butter.
Combine cravings with good-for-you foods: Try 70% dark chocolate with ½ cup of fruit, try stuffing 2 dates with cashew butter and sea salt, make your own low-sugar desserts with sweeteners like coconut sugar, date sugar, raw honey or maple syrup and add-in some veggies like zucchini, carrot or beets!
Increase your fiber intake: Fiber is really a miracle nutrient. It helps to keep you full, it detoxifies the body of excess estrogen and it can even help to boost the production of a hormone (FGF21) that reduces sugar cravings. Aim to eat 30g of fiber every day!
Get those ZZZs: Research shows that getting 7-8 hours of quality sleep per night, helps to reduce food cravings. Start by turning off all electronics 30-60 minutes before bed to help you wind down mentally at the end of the day.
Read ingredient labels: While you may be familiar with common sugar sources such as candy and sweets, watch out for hidden sources of added sugar such as pasta sauce, low-fat salad dressing, fruit juices, bbq sauce, yogurt, and granola.
